1. My son/daughter is playing another sport and will miss some practices. Can they still be on the team?
Absolutely! As long as your child is getting exercise, we consider it good run cross training.
2. Are all abilities welcomed?
Certainly. We have different pace groups with coaches or parent coaches at each pace. Participants grades K and 1 must have their parents with them.
3. Should I bring my child if the weather is too hot / air quality is bad?
The health of every participant and coaches is our priority. Practice will be cancelled if the temperature and/or AQI is above. Please check for updates on the main page at 4.15pm day of practice.
4. Can my child bring their phone to practice?
No. Coaches will have their phones for emergencies.
5. Are headphones allowed for listening to music?
No. It’s a safety issue and doesn’t lend itself to making friends.
6. My child has sore muscles, should they skip practice?
No. Sore muscles are part of the adaptation process. We’ll ask kids if they are sore before practice and recommend they go easy that day. Movement and active recovery is key.
7. What if I believe my child has an injury?
Let one of the coaches know right away.
8. Do you ever encounter snakes?
Usually once a season we see a snake along a trail. It’s rare though because we stay on main trails where snakes don’t like to go. We make sure kids know to stop and report a snake sighting.
9. I’m a parent who likes to hike, walk, jog, run in Shell Ridge. Can I be join the team?
Absolutely! We encourage it. We are actively recruiting parent coaches.
